The Wireless Power Consortium has announced that Qi2 will see “acceleration” in Android devices in 2025, with more smartphones adopting built-in Qi2 support. This follows a two-year wait since the standard was first announced.
Samsung has confirmed that its Galaxy S25 devices will support Qi2, though it’s unclear which specific models will feature this technology. However, a recent report suggests that the tech may be integrated directly into the phone rather than relying on cases for faster charging speeds.
Google is also committed to Qi2 and leading development on Qi 2.2, with faster charging speeds expected to become standard across Android devices. The company’s high-power wireless charging technology will be included in the new standard, but it remains unclear whether Google itself will adopt Qi2 in future Pixel phones.
The press release also mentions that Qi2 extensions in 2025 will include moving coils for automotive use cases. To clarify the confusion surrounding Qi2 branding, the WPC has stated that magnets are required to be built into devices to ensure compatibility.
