22-Year-Old Nursing Student Wins Miss America Title

Abbie Stockard, representing Alabama, has been crowned the new Miss America. The 22-year-old nursing student, who is an undergraduate and cheerleader at Auburn University, won the annual event in Orlando, Florida, defeating 51 other US state representatives.

Stockard, who will take over from last year’s winner Madison Marsh, appeared flabbergasted as she was crowned the victor. In a video shared on Miss America’s Instagram page, she expressed her shock and gratitude, saying “This is insane. I don’t know what I did to deserve this.”

The competition included various rounds, including choreographed dances, live segments, fitness, talent, eveningwear, and interview segments. Stockard showcased her skills in a contemporary dance routine, which won over the judges.

Stockard also spoke about the importance of encouraging people to join the workforce and adapt to new skills after the COVID-19 pandemic. “I believe we need to encourage those (people) to join the workforce, adapt to new skills and learn to grow in our current workforce and industries we have today,” she said.

As part of her victory, Stockard will receive a $50,000 tuition scholarship and embark on a 12-month reign as a Miss America advocate. She will have the opportunity to travel the world and represent the organization.
