China Earthquake Kills 126 People and Traps Many

A strong earthquake struck a remote region of western China and parts of Nepal on Tuesday, killing at least 126 people in Tibet. The quake measured magnitude 7.1 and was shallow, causing widespread damage and disruption.

Rescue efforts are underway, with hundreds of rescuers deployed to the affected area. Many houses were damaged, leaving dozens trapped under rubble. Video footage shows the scale of the destruction, with building debris littering streets and crushed cars scattered about.

In Nepal, residents in northeastern parts of the country felt the quake’s strong impact but reported no initial injuries or damage. The epicenter was located in Tibet’s Tingri county, where two tectonic plates meet, causing frequent earthquakes.

Chinese leader Xi Jinping has called for all-out efforts to rescue those trapped and resettle affected families. The government has allocated 100 million yuan ($13.6 million) for disaster relief and deployed thousands of rescuers.
