Nine Miners Trapped in Indian Coal Mine, Army Deployed for Rescue

At least nine workers are trapped inside a coal mine in India’s northeastern Assam state. Authorities have summoned the army to help in the rescue operation after water flooded the mine on Monday morning.

The miners were working in an area with minimal safety measures when water from a nearby unused mine began filling their site. “We are mobilizing resources to rescue them,” said Kaushik Rai, a local government minister monitoring the rescue efforts.

Army soldiers and a national disaster management team have been deployed to assist in the ongoing operation. The incident highlights the risks faced by coal miners working in hazardous conditions, with many extracting coal in small, illegal mines in hilly areas.
