Nvidia has revealed a new line of chips designed for desktops and laptops, leveraging the same Blackwell architecture used in its fastest artificial intelligence processors for servers and data centers.
The GeForce RTX 50-series chips will support DLSS 4, an AI-powered feature that boosts gaming frame rates. The company says these chips will be pre-installed in computers ranging from $550 to $2,000 and will start shipping in laptops in March.
Nvidia’s CEO Jensen Huang emphasized the shift towards expanding its business beyond traditional graphics processing units for gamers. “We’re not just a gaming company anymore,” he said. The company has seen significant growth in its AI chip sales, with revenue increasing 15% from last year.
The new chips are designed to work seamlessly with Nvidia’s massive AI business, which outpaces its rivals Advanced Micro Devices and Intel. The RTX 5090 model, the most expensive option, will be sold individually for $1,999 and boasts twice the performance of its predecessor.
These processors will not only power games but also enable generative AI in game development and run large language models and image generation models from top companies like Meta and Stability AI.
