Pixel 4a Gets Final Update, Brings Reduced Battery Life

Google has released a surprise update for the budget-friendly Pixel 4a smartphone, which was discontinued in 2022. The new software update aims to improve battery performance but will reduce the device’s overall runtime and charging capabilities. The automatic Android 13 update introduces new battery management features to address stability issues.

However, this change will affect only some affected devices, determined by a survey, with owners having three options: send their phone in for a free battery replacement, receive $50 or equivalent payment, or get $100 toward a new Pixel phone. Those eligible have one year from the scheduled update on January 8, 2025, to choose an “appeasement option.”
