Allison Holker is sharing new details about her late husband Stephen “twitch” Boss, who died by suicide in December 2022 at age 40. In an upcoming memoir, This Far: My Story of Love, Loss, and Embracing the Light, Holker will open up about their family’s healing journey.
Holker said that just before his disappearance, her husband dropped off their eldest daughter Weslie at school and told her “I wish I could be your Superman.” This conversation has stuck with Holker, who believes it shows Boss’ deep love for his daughter despite not being able to express it in the way he wanted.
Holker and her children began intensive therapy after Boss’ death to cope with their loss. She notes that learning to accept that “it’s OK to not be OK” was a crucial step in healing. The family has been working hard to keep moving forward, particularly for Weslie, who was the last to see her father alive.
Holker has also become an advocate for mental health awareness, partnering with organizations like the National Alliance of Mental Illness and Maple Counseling. Her primary goal is to support her children, especially Weslie, as they navigate their own struggles.
Holker acknowledges that closure is not something she or her children will ever achieve. However, therapy has helped her understand the importance of seeking help and leaning on supportive resources. This Far: My Story of Love, Loss, and Embracing the Light will be available February 4.
