NVIDIA Unveils Autonomous Game Characters at CES 2025

Nvidia has announced a major advancement in its digital “ACE” characters, which can now engage in conversational gameplay with users using generative AI. At CES 2025, the company showcased how ACE characters can become autonomous game companions, including a teammate designed to help players achieve victories in popular games like PUBG.

According to Nvidia, ACE characters can perceive, plan, and act like human players, using “small language models” that enable realistic decision making. This technology will be used to create living, dynamic game worlds with AI-powered companions that comprehend player goals and adapt dynamically to tactics.

In PUBG, the “PUBG Ally,” a Co-Playable Character (CPC), will join players in-game. The Ally can communicate using game-specific language, provide real-time strategic recommendations, find loot, drive vehicles, and engage in combat with human opponents.

The technology is expected to be rolled out in other games, including Naraka: Bladepoint Mobile PC Version in March 2025, with plans for a wider release on PC later this year. Nvidia’s ACE characters will also be used as bosses in Wemade Next’s MIR5 and as companions called “Smart Zoi” in Krafton’s life simulation game inZOI.

Nvidia’s ACE technology aims to create immersive gaming experiences, where AI-powered characters can enhance gameplay and provide a more engaging experience for players.
