Impeached South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol is remaining under close guard at his lavish hillside villa, known as Korea’s Beverly Hills. The president and his wife have retreated to the upscale district after parliament voted to impeach him last month over a short-lived martial law decree.
According to sources, investigators are struggling to execute a warrant for Yoon’s arrest due to a human chain of hundreds of security personnel outside his residence. Despite this, they remain determined to bring him in on allegations of insurrection.
Yoon has been living a relatively private life since his impeachment, with few guests visiting except for lawyers and those close to the president. He has taken measures to maintain his privacy, including barricading the street leading up to his residence with buses and barbed wire.
The presidential residence, which boasts a compound spanning 14,710 square meters, was extensively renovated after Yoon took office in 2022. The property is home to multiple banquet halls, meeting rooms, and other luxurious amenities, sparking controversy over renovation costs and the influence of Feng shui masters on Yoon’s decision.
As the investigation into Yoon continues, it remains unclear how he is spending his days with his family, including six dogs and five cats. A few days after his impeachment, Yoon quietly celebrated his 64th birthday at home, with supporters sending flowers to the residence.
