Smart locks are getting a major upgrade at this year’s CES 2025, with multiple companies releasing devices that come equipped with built-in video displays. This means homeowners can finally see who’s trying to get inside their homes without having to juggle multiple devices.
Lockly, known for its high-end smart locks, has launched the Vision Prestige, a premium smart lock with a 4-inch screen on the inside components of the device. The screen shows images captured by the 2K video camera on the outside, allowing users to see who’s at their door and activate an intercom to talk with outsiders. This feature also includes motion sensing and facial recognition.
The Vision Prestige has a touchscreen keypad on the outside, along with a fingerprint reader and traditional key lock for access alternatives. It works seamlessly with Apple devices, including Apple Watch, Siri, and Apple Home Keys (plus Google and Alexa). However, the device comes with a price tag of $500, which is steep for some buyers.
TCL has also released its own smart lock, the Smart Lock D1 Ultra, featuring a 3.5-inch indoor video screen that shows what the 2K resolution camera is picking up. The device includes fingerprint, app, and keypad options, as well as motion sensing, two-way audio, and alerts. However, it lacks Apple support but works with Alexa and Google Assistant. It’s expected to be released in the first quarter of 2025, although its price remains unknown.
While Eufy released a camera lock last year, these new smart locks take video displays to the next level by providing information on the device itself. With growing popularity of video doorbells as a way to prevent porch pirates and recognize friends, it’s no surprise that companies are trying to incorporate similar features in other devices.
These smart locks have the potential to become an ultimate all-in-one home security device if they work well. For homeowners with doors without windows or keyholes, these devices could be a convenient replacement for more complex setups combining smart displays and video doorbells.
