Uber to Partner with Nvidia for AI-Powered Autonomous Driving Tech

Uber Technologies and Nvidia are teaming up to develop AI-powered autonomous driving technology, the companies announced on Monday. This partnership will utilize Nvidia’s Cosmos platform and DGX operating system to accelerate the development of physical AI.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang highlighted his company’s ambition to power autonomous vehicles and robots during his keynote at the CES technology trade show. Uber is set to be one of the first adopters of Nvidia’s AI models, which will leverage the vast data from millions of daily trips on the ride-hailing platform.

According to Uber, this partnership will pair Nvidia’s AI with the “vast and rich source of data” that Uber provides, enabling AV developers to improve their technology. Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi emphasized the importance of generating high-quality AI for autonomous driving, saying, “Generative AI will power the future of mobility, requiring both rich data and very powerful compute.”

This collaboration marks a significant development in Uber’s autonomous vehicle strategy, which involves partnering with other companies to accelerate the development of AV technology. The partnership includes Waymo, Google’s self-driving car division, as well as WeRide, a Chinese mobility company.

Despite investor concerns about the impact of autonomous vehicles on Uber’s business, the company is starting 2025 strong, rallying 10% so far this month and retaking its 21-day moving average.
