New Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con Images Reveal Potential Sync Button and Optical Sensor

Leaked images of the new Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con controller have shed more light on its features, including a potential sync button and an optical sensor. The photos, which appear to be legitimate, show two enlarged SL and SR buttons on the side of the controller, corroborating with previous leaks.

The most interesting discovery is the presence of an optical sensor above the center port. Some speculate that Nintendo might be copying a feature from the Lenovo Legion Go PC handheld, which uses the right controller as a mouse. However, this technology doesn’t seem to fit well with Nintendo’s games, which don’t typically require mouse input.

The images also show another potential button above the SL button, but its functionality remains unclear. The Joy-Con system serial number on the back of the controller is listed as valid on Nintendo’s Check Warranty page, further solidifying the authenticity of the leak.

Despite fresh leaks emerging, Nintendo seems determined to announce the Switch 2 only when it’s ready. A planned reveal is still months away, with predictions suggesting an announcement will take place in January 2025.
