Nvidia Unveils $3,000 AI Supercomputer, Foreshadows Consumer CPU Plans

Nvidia has revealed Project Digits, a personal AI supercomputer priced at $3,000, potentially hinting at its plans to enter the consumer CPU market in 2025. The device is powered by a new GB10 Grace Blackwell Superchip, which also houses an Arm-based CPU codeveloped with MediaTek.

At CES, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang hinted at larger ambitions for the Arm-based chip, saying only that “plans exist.” MediaTek, the co-developer, may also bring the CPU to market independently of Nvidia. However, this would represent a win-win situation for both parties.

Nvidia’s consumer CPU plans have been rumored since October 2023. With AMD working on similar projects, the company aims to challenge Qualcomm’s dominance in the Arm-based CPU market. The launch of these chips could mark a significant shift in the battle between x86 and Arm processors, potentially favoring the latter in 2025.

Qualcomm’s recent success with Snapdragon X Elite processors has boosted their position in Windows PCs, pushing Intel and AMD’s x86 systems to improve. As the competition increases, Nvidia may be poised to change the landscape of CPU markets.
