Texas Winter Storm Watch: Rain, Snow, and Travel Warnings

A winter storm watch has been issued for Central Texas, with rain expected on Wednesday night into Thursday morning. However, KXAN meteorologists are also warning of the potential for freezing rain or sleet in some areas, primarily in the Hill Country.

In contrast, the Dallas-Fort Worth forecast remains unchanged, with a Winter Storm Watch in effect from Wednesday night to Friday morning. This means that heavy snowfall and icy road conditions are expected, particularly north of Interstate 20.

Daytime temperatures in the affected areas are not expected to rise above the mid-30s, which could lead to a mix of rain and snow. Travelers are advised to exercise caution during the day on Thursday, with major roadways being deemed safe but secondary roads potentially problematic.

If you plan to travel, it’s recommended to leave your local area by 9-10 am on Friday morning to avoid potential delays. Make sure your car is in good condition, including properly inflated tires and a working battery.

Additionally, if you’re flying on Thursday, be prepared for possible flight delays. The KXAN Weather team will provide updates to help with your travel decision, so stay tuned to First Warning Weather.
