Massive Winter Storm Brings Snow to Texas and Beyond

A powerful winter storm is expected to bring snow to areas from Texas to the Carolinas from Thursday into the weekend. The storm’s impact will be felt across several states, including northeastern Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, northern Mississippi, northern Alabama, northern Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, West Virginia, North Carolina, and western South Carolina.

The cities most likely to receive significant snowfall include Dallas, Texarkana, Broken Bow, Little Rock, Pine Bluff, Southaven, Tupelo, Memphis, Nashville, Chattanooga, and Bowling Green. The storm’s trajectory will take it toward the East Coast on Saturday, bringing light to moderate snow to many states, including Washington, D.C., and the Mid-Atlantic.

The forecast indicates a complex interaction between three atmospheric disturbances that will determine how much snow falls and where. Snow is expected in Colorado, New Mexico, northern Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas, and parts of the Ohio Valley.

Travelers can expect treacherous conditions, road closures, flight delays, cancellations, and school and business disruptions due to the heavy snowfall. The storm will also bring cold air that may lock in frigid temperatures for several days.

The areas most affected by the storm are expected to experience low temperatures, with some regions possibly dipping below zero degrees Fahrenheit. The storm’s aftermath will see another potent Arctic blast arrive around January 20, bringing more frigid air from the northern Plains to the East Coast.
