The next full moon is the Wolf Moon, which will peak in the evening sky on January 13, 2025. This month’s full moon marks the beginning of 2025 and can be observed from Michigan.
The Wolf Moon gets its name from the sound of wolves howling during this season. According to the Old Farmer’s Almanac, the name originated from the common occurrence of wolf sightings in winter.
On January 13, clear skies are necessary for optimal viewing. The full moon peaks at 5:27 p.m. in the afternoon sky. Additionally, the previous full moon was December’s Cold Moon, and the next full moon is on February 12, 2025 – the Snow Moon.
Note that the Wolf Moon is not a supermoon, which means it will not have an unusually large size or brightness compared to other moons.
