Garmin Unveils New Rugged Smartwatches with Long Battery Life Options

Garmin has unveiled a new series of rugged smartwatches at CES 2025, called the Instinct 3. The four models share similar components but offer distinct features. They feature fiber-reinforced polymer cases, scratch-resistant glass, and metal-reinforced bezels, making them durable enough for extreme temperatures, shock, and underwater submersion up to 100 meters.

The smartwatches come with built-in flashlights, red light modes, and strobe effects for outdoor assistance. They also offer health monitoring features like tracking daily steps, heart rate, and sleep habits. Smart notifications appear on the screen when paired with a compatible smartphone.

There are two display options: an AMOLED watch face that outputs vibrant colors and a solar-powered screen that is more muted but can last “forever” due to its unlimited battery life. However, achieving this longevity requires exposing the watch to specific conditions.

The Instinct 3 series will be available for purchase on January 10, with prices starting at $450 for AMOLED devices and $400 for solar-charging units. A more affordable option is the Instinct E – 40mm, which starts at $300 and offers similar features but with a shorter battery life of up to 14 days.
