Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, is facing a lawsuit filed by his sister Ann Altman, alleging years of childhood sexual abuse. The lawsuit claims that Altman abused his sister “several times per week” between 1997 and 2006, starting when she was 3 and he was 12.
In a joint statement with his mother and brothers, Altman denied the allegations, calling them “deeply hurtful and entirely untrue.” The family said they have chosen not to respond publicly out of respect for their sister’s privacy but felt compelled to address the situation.
The lawsuit requests a jury trial and damages exceeding $75,000. Ann Altman has previously made similar claims against her brother on social media platforms, but this is the first time she has taken him to court.
Altman was briefly ousted as CEO of OpenAI in November 2023 due to pressure from investors and employees. He has since regained his position. The tech executive also faces other lawsuits, including one filed by Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk over a breach of contract and fiduciary duty dispute related to OpenAI’s for-profit status.
