Iowa State edged out Texas Tech 85-84 in a nail-biting overtime thriller, handing the Red Raiders their first loss in nine games. The Cyclones’ Joshua Jefferson led the charge with 17 points and eight rebounds, including two clutch free throws with 4.1 seconds left in overtime to seal the win.
Iowa State trailed by 13 points at halftime but staged a stunning comeback, outscoring Texas Tech 44-20 over the final nine minutes of regulation. The Cyclones then took the lead in overtime, with Jefferson scoring the game-winning layup at the buzzer of regulation.
Texas Tech had its chances to win, but two missed free throws by Chance McMillian proved costly. The Red Raiders outshot Iowa State 52.5% from the field, but struggled with turnovers, committing a season-high 15 that led to 15 points for the Cyclones.
Iowa State’s 11-game winning streak is now at risk of being broken, as they host the top-ranked Kansas Jayhawks on Wednesday night.
