xAI has made its free chatbot Grok available on the iOS App Store without requiring an X account. Previously, Grok was only accessible to Premium subscribers through their website. The new version of Grok, dubbed Grok-2, allows users to access the AI-powered chatbot directly from their iPhone. The app is available for free and does not require any sign-in or account credentials.
Users can download and use Grok without an X account, but they can still connect it to their X account or sign in via Apple, Google, or email. The app comes with limitations similar to the free plan, such as 10 requests every two hours, three image analysis requests, and four image generations per day.
Grok’s popularity has already started to gain traction on the iOS App Store, ranking fourth among free apps and surpassing Gemini. However, its long-term staying power is uncertain, as most users are likely to stick with established alternatives like ChatGPT.
Despite being a relatively new AI chatbot, Grok shows impressive speed in responding to text-based queries. However, concerns arise regarding the app’s lack of filtering and potential for abuse, which could lead to the creation of copyrighted or offensive content. This feature may appeal to users looking for creative freedom but could also pose risks.
As xAI expands its AI offerings, it remains to be seen how Grok will differentiate itself in a crowded market dominated by established players like ChatGPT.
