Djimon Hounsou Opens Up About Struggling Financially Despite Decades of Success

Actor Djimon Hounsou has revealed that despite his decades-long career in Hollywood, he’s still struggling to make a living financially. In an interview with CNN Africa, he shared his experiences with the film industry, including struggles with systemic racism.

Hounsou, who has been nominated for two Oscars and appeared in blockbuster films, feels underpaid compared to his peers. He attributed this to the industry’s perception of him as an outsider, saying that some people view him as someone “just off the boat” rather than a serious actor.

The actor expressed frustration with being overlooked in Hollywood, which has impacted not only his finances but also his workload. When meeting with studios, he claims they would often assume he was just starting out, instead of acknowledging his accomplishments.

Despite his frustration, Hounsou emphasized that he’s still able to sustain a career and make a living. He acknowledged the limited vision some people have of him as an actor, but is determined to prove them wrong.
