A former Australian child star, Rory Callum Sykes, has died in the Los Angeles fires. His mother, Shelley Sykes, said she tried to call 911 for help but was unable to connect due to poor reception.
Sykes, who starred on the British TV show Kiddy Kapers, suffered from blindness and cerebral palsy. Despite his disabilities, he became a sought-after inspirational speaker at just eight years old. His mother revealed that he had overcome significant challenges through surgeries and therapies to regain his sight and learn to walk.
Sykes’ death has left his family in shock, with his mother describing him as “heartbroken”. The incident highlights the challenges faced by people with disabilities during natural disasters.
