Falcons Part Ways with Defensive Coordinator Jimmy Lake and Coach Jay Rodgers

The Atlanta Falcons have announced that they are parting ways with defensive coordinator Jimmy Lake and defensive line coach Jay Rodgers, effective immediately. The decision comes after a disappointing end to the 2024 season, where the team struggled to find consistency in rushing the passer.

The team’s defense ranked last in the league for most of the season but improved slightly in the second half, recording 21 sacks in the final six games. However, this improvement was not enough to change their overall ranking for the season.

In addition to the on-field struggles, the Falcons’ defense also struggled with quarterback pressure and allowed an EPA of +0.08 per dropback, which ranked 28th overall. They gave up the ninth-most touchdowns in the league and allowed the 10th-most yards per game.

Head coach Raheem Morris stated that the team would use the off-season to evaluate their plans moving forward and make changes as needed. The Falcons will begin the process of filling the vacant positions, marking their fifth change at defensive coordinator since 2020.

Morris emphasized the importance of being honest with oneself and others in making decisions that benefit the fan base and fans. Lake and Rodgers had just finished their first seasons with the team, bringing experience from previous roles with the Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers.
