Demonstrators gathered in Riesa, East Germany, on Saturday to block the annual congress of far-right party Alternative for Germany (AfD). The protesters, chanting “no to Nazis,” prevented over 600 delegates from attending the event, which was delayed as a result. Police estimate around 10,000 people will be in attendance over the weekend. At the summit, the party’s co-leader Alice Weidel is expected to formally nominate herself as the candidate for chancellor in the upcoming February 23 federal elections.
