Actress Mandy Moore has fired back at critics who questioned her decision to share a GoFundMe page on Instagram to support her in-laws, whose home was destroyed in the ongoing wildfires in Southern California. Moore’s husband, musician Taylor Goldsmith, also suffered damage to his own family home.
Moore wrote in an Instagram post that she and her family are “helping out our own family” and that those who don’t want to contribute are not being helpful or empathetic. Her in-laws, Griff and Kit Goldsmith, lost their home to the Eaton Fire, which has destroyed over 12,300 structures and displaced more than 150,000 people.
The fundraising campaign, which was started by Moore’s friend Matt, has already tripled its $60,000 goal. Moore shared that her own house was damaged in the blaze, but is still standing. The couple is expecting their first baby soon and need the support now more than ever.
Moore’s post comes after fellow actor Jennifer Garner expressed similar feelings of guilt about a friend who died in the fires. The Palisades Fire, which is currently only 11% contained, has left many in the community feeling helpless and overwhelmed.
