Marvel Rivals Cracks Down on Mods After Season 1 Update

Marvel’s popular multiplayer game, Marvel Rivals, has introduced a new crackdown on mods since its Season 1 update. The update includes asset hash checking, which disables custom mods that add new skins or alter gameplay.

Despite the developer’s warnings against modifying game files, modders continued to create and use custom content, including those turning iconic characters like Iron Man into Vegeta from Dragon Ball and Mantis into a goth. However, with the new update, these mods are no longer functional.

NetEase, the game’s developer, has stated that modifying game files carries a risk of account bans. The crackdown on mods may be a response to revenue concerns, as mods could potentially threaten the sales of premium skins. Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 saw a similar move when it disabled mods initially but later reversed its decision.

Players are now being asked to remove any unauthorized mods from their game. In the meantime, fans can check out the updated patch notes and official stats for Marvel Rivals’ pick and win rates in Quickplay and Competitive modes.
