Ukraine has obtained indisputable evidence of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea’s (DPRK) involvement in Russia’s war against the country, following the capture of two North Korean servicemen. The Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) announced that the foreign prisoners were taken into custody by the Tactical Group No. 84 of the Special Operations Forces in the Kursk region.
The two North Koreans are believed to have been involved in Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, with one of them holding a Russian-style military ID issued in another person’s name. The SBU emphasized that both prisoners received proper medical assistance and are being held in conditions meeting international legal standards.
During interrogation, the DPRK soldiers revealed that they had undergone interoperability training with Russian groups, suggesting a level of coordination between North Korea and Russia. Notably, both prisoners claimed to have been sent for “training” rather than to fight in the war against Ukraine.
The SBU is conducting further investigations into the circumstances surrounding the North Korean servicemen’s involvement in the conflict. The investigation will be guided by Article 437 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which pertains to planning, preparation, initiation, and waging of an aggressive war.
This development comes as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed earlier that two Ukrainian soldiers had captured North Korean servicemen in the Kursk region.
