Altice USA has dropped multiple channels, including Nexstar Media Group’s local programming and NewsNation national cable news network, from its Optimum cable systems. This decision comes as a new Congress is about to take office and the Presidential inauguration approaches.
Nexstar attempted to negotiate with Altice since October but was met with unreasonable demands. Altice now deprives over 2 million Americans of access to local news, live sports, entertainment programming, and weather alerts.
“Altice’s pattern of behavior shows a lack of willingness to engage in good faith negotiations,” said Michael Biard, Nexstar’s President and Chief Operating Officer. The company believes that forcing Optimum subscribers to pay more while getting less is not a viable solution to Altice’s financial struggles.
