Classic Offensive, a fan-made remake of Counter-Strike, has been denied a Steam release after eight years of development. The game’s creators claim that Valve was aware of their project and even cooperated with them in the past, but the company blocked its launch on the platform.
The game is still available as a mod for CS:GO, but its developers had intended to make it available through Steam. However, after submitting their build to Steamworks, they received an automated message stating that Valve had “retired” their app without explanation.
“We followed the requirements and recommendations to the letter,” said the Classic Offensive team in a statement. “We even made changes at Valve’s request due to the usage of their IP. We are devastated by this news.”
The team claims that they worked on the project for almost eight years, with Valve seemingly aware of their existence throughout the development process. They will try to contact Valve to discuss the matter and potentially resolve the issue.
Despite the setback, fans may see Classic Offensive as a sign that the conditions might have changed for its Steam release.
