Valve Blocks CS:GO Mod Classic Offensive from Steam Release

A team behind a highly ambitious Counter-Strike: Global Offensive mod claims that Valve has blocked their project from coming to Steam. The team, known as CSGO Classic Offensive, submitted the mod for release late last year but received no response or explanation from Valve.

The mod, which aims to bring back the “classic feeling” of earlier CS games, had been in development since 2016 and was available on ModDB in beta form. In 2017, it made it to Steam Greenlight, where players voted on its release. However, when the team submitted their build for a review on October 6, 2024, they were met with an automated message stating that Valve had retired their app without reason.

The team is devastated by this development and feels that they were treated unfairly. They worked on the project for almost eight years and had previously discussed its release with Valve employees and developers from other projects. The Classic Offensive mod’s aim was to revive old-school elements, including weapons, sounds, stats, and physics, in the modern CSGO game.

The team is now urging other Valve modding projects to reconsider their plans for releasing on Steam due to the experience of CSGO Classic Offensive. They plan to try again to get in contact with Valve employees to resolve this issue and hope that it can be resolved soon.
