Wildfires in the Los Angeles area have caused significant disruptions to NASA data centers. The Physical Oceanography Distributed Active Archive Center (PO.DAAC) and its website are experiencing operational issues, which may also affect Surface Water and Ocean Topography (SWOT) and Sentinel-6a data flow.
Additionally, NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California has been evacuated due to the emergency. This has resulted in delays in processing near real-time (NRT) Soil Moisture Active Passive (SMAP) and Microwave Limb Sounder (MLS) data.
However, users can still access NASA Earth science data products and other datasets through Earthdata Search. For more information on NRT data and updates on the LA wildfires and global wildfires, visit NASA’s Fire Information for Resource Management System (FIRMS) and Earth Observatory Natural Event Tracker (EONET).
