France Condemns Serial Rapist’s 20-Year Sentence for Drugging Wife

Caroline Darian, 46, daughter of Gisèle Pelicot, who suffered years of horrific abuse by her then-husband Dominique, has described his heinous crimes in a BBC interview. Darian suspects she was also drugged and raped by her father, citing no evidence due to a lack of witnesses.

Dominique, 72, received the maximum 20-year sentence for aggravated rape last month. He recruited dozens of men to rape his wife through online platforms, using sedatives to render her unconscious before arranging meetings with accomplices. Gisèle testified she was unaware of her husband’s actions, but police found hundreds of images and videos of her being raped after arresting him in 2020 for upskirting.

Darian described the trauma inflicted by her father as a “terrible burden” and now views him as a “sexual criminal.” She has written a book detailing their family’s trauma, titled “I’ll Never Call Him Dad Again.” The case highlights France’s struggle with pervasive misogyny and systemic sexual assault, galvanizing women to demand changes in the way the country approaches gender-based violence.
