Subaru has finally released its highly anticipated WRX STI, but fans are left disappointed by the limited production run and unusual transmission choice. The S210 STI will be available in only 500 units for the Japanese market, with all cars featuring a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT).
While the engine performance is impressive, boasting 300 horsepower from its FA24 turbocharged four-cylinder, the CVT is a surprise move for an STI model. Subaru claims it’s aimed at creating a “two-pedal sports sedan” but this decision seems to fall short of expectations.
However, the rest of the car features several upgrades that enhance performance and handling. The STI comes equipped with upgraded wheels, Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires, six-piston Brembo brakes, and Subaru’s anti-roll bars for better stopping power. The interior also boasts carbon fiber Recaro bucket seats reminiscent of a Porsche 911 GT3.
Despite the car’s impressive features, its limited production run and CVT transmission raise questions about Subaru’s focus on global appeal. With many fans eagerly awaiting a more substantial STI release, this move may be seen as an attempt to gauge demand for such a model.
