India’s Supreme Court Upholds Aadhaar Card Scheme

In a 5-0 decision, the court rejected petitions challenging the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIAI) to issue and store biometric identification cards for residents. The ruling maintains the validity of the Aadhaar program, which was launched in 2009 as part of India’s efforts to provide citizens with identity verification.
