PATH Fares Increased Amid Rising Transportation Costs

PATH fares rose for the first time since 2014, with a single ride now costing $3. The increase affects multi-trip passes by just 10 cents, while senior SmartLink Cards remain at $1.25 per ride.

The additional revenue will be allocated towards capital improvements. This comes as New Jersey faces growing transportation costs, including congestion pricing in Midtown Manhattan and increased tolls on bridges, tunnels, and roads.

Congestion pricing charges a $9 fee during peak hours and $2.25 for non-peak hours, while the 3% fare increase for Port Authority bridges and tunnels is also in effect. The New Jersey Turnpike Authority’s tolls have risen by 3%, with average annual commuters facing an increase of around $80.

These changes aim to support infrastructure development, but may burden daily commutes for many travelers.
