A consortium of major broadcasters, including ESPN, Fox, and Warner Bros. Discovery, has scrapped the planned Venu Sports streaming service, citing market conditions and competition. The decision comes as other sports streaming services emerge, catering to the growing audience of cable-cutters. Although a court fight with Fubo was recently settled, companies had expressed opposition to Venu’s launch. In a joint statement, the broadcasters stated they will focus on existing products and distribution channels, such as ESPN’s own streaming service set to launch later this year.
