The OnePlus 13, the first flagship of 2025, has set a high bar for its peers by offering flagship performance, a versatile camera setup, and all-day battery life at an affordable price. As I compared it to my iPhone 16 Pro, I identified two features that could significantly enhance Apple’s next flagship: Aqua Touch Display and Silicon-Carbon Battery.
The first feature that impressed me is the Aqua Touch Display, which lets you register accurate finger touches on the screen even when it’s wet. This technology is a game-changer for people who want to use their phone in rainy or poolside conditions without dealing with frustrating screen responsiveness. The display also comes with Glove Mode, allowing users to wear gloves up to 0.5cm thick while still using their phone.
The second feature that caught my attention is the Silicon-Carbon Battery technology, which offers improved energy density and resilience in extreme weather conditions. This upgrade has already benefited recent Android flagships, delivering better battery life and durability.
While it’s unlikely that Apple will adopt these features for the iPhone 17 Pro, they could significantly improve its day-to-day experience. With persistent issues like lens flare and iOS-related bugs still present on the iPhone 16 Pro, adding Aqua Touch Display and Silicon-Carbon Battery technology could be a welcome addition to future iPhones.
As an independent consumer tech journalist, I believe that these features have the potential to revolutionize phone usage and make Apple’s next flagship a compelling option for consumers.
