Nick Taylor Wins Sony Open with Dramatic Clutch Play

Canadian golfer Nick Taylor delivered another thrilling finish, chipping in for eagle on the 18th hole at Waialae Country Club to claim victory in the Sony Open in Hawaii. This marks his fifth PGA TOUR title and third win in a playoff.

Taylor trailed by two shots with a 10-foot birdie putt left but suddenly found new life when his 60-foot chip rolled in, setting him up for a birdie that sealed the deal. After Echavarria’s eagle putt came up short, Taylor sunk a superb pitch from 46 yards out to get within 3 feet of the cup.

The win sends Taylor back to the Masters, a welcome reprieve after a disappointing end to last season. This victory follows his recent wins at the WM Phoenix Open and RBC Canadian Open in playoffs. Taylor’s impressive performance has earned him significant praise, including from Stephan Jaeger, who fell short despite a strong showing.

Jaeger and J.J. Spaun put on an exciting duel but ultimately came up just shy. Despite their valiant efforts, they couldn’t overcome crucial mistakes, with Jaeger hitting the ball out-of-bounds on the 16th hole and Spaun missing a birdie putt that would have given him a cushion.

In contrast, Taylor’s clutch play at the end earned him his fifth PGA TOUR title and third playoff win. His exceptional pitching skills and composure under pressure were key to his success.
