Pittsburgh Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin has been placed on injured reserve due to an upper-body injury. The move allows for forward Philip Tomasino, who suffered the same type of injury in a January 3 loss to Florida, to return from his own injury.
Malkin’s day-to-day status remains unchanged, according to head coach Mike Sullivan. He continues to progress in his rehabilitation process. This change is considered retroactive, meaning it only affects Tomasino’s status.
Malkin has eight goals and 32 points in 41 games this season. However, he has scored just three goals in his last 25 games. Tomasino will now rejoin the team as Malkin deals with his injury.
