If your iPhone is running low on storage due to Apple’s AI-powered features, you’re not alone. A new survey shows that 73% of users don’t think AI adds value to their phone experience. Fortunately, it’s easy to turn off these features and free up some space.
In iOS 18.2, the requirements for Apple Intelligence have jumped from 4GB to 7GB. This is because much of the processing for features like text summaries and image manipulation happens on-device, requiring more storage. However, if you’re not interested in using these features or want to wait until they mature further, you can turn them off entirely.
To do so, go to Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri and toggle off the feature. Be aware that disabling Apple Intelligence will remove various features like writing tools, notification summaries, and image manipulation capabilities.
Alternatively, you can selectively disable specific features through app settings. For example, you can turn off text summaries in Messages notifications by going to Settings > Apps > Messages.
It’s worth noting that turning off Apple Intelligence does not reclaim the storage space it was using. To check how much storage is being used by Apple Intelligence, go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage.
Remember to make a backup before disabling any features, as they may impact your device’s functionality. With these steps, you can free up some space and enjoy a more streamlined phone experience.
