Israel’s Gaza Siege Leaves 5,000 Dead or Missing Amid Renewed Ceasefire Talks

The Israeli military has intensified its siege of northern Gaza, killing or injuring thousands of Palestinians and leaving many dead or missing. The conflict has resulted in at least 5,000 Palestinian deaths, with nearly all the victims being killed by Israeli forces since the start of the war.

The siege, which began in early October, has been marked by brutal attacks on civilians, including children, and widespread destruction. At least 70 children have been killed in just five days, with many more injured or displaced.

Humanitarian conditions in Gaza remain dire, with thousands of families forced to live without basic necessities like food, water, and healthcare. The Israeli military has blocked most aid from entering the enclave, leading to widespread poverty and famine-like conditions.

Despite renewed ceasefire talks, Israeli leaders have made it clear that they will maintain control over Gaza even if an agreement is reached. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has authorized top officials to travel to Qatar to advance negotiations on releasing Palestinian captives, but far-right ministers remain opposed to the deal.

The conflict has also taken a toll on children and journalists, with at least 203 journalists killed by Israeli forces since the start of the war. The UN estimates that nearly all Gaza’s 1.1 million children need mental health support due to the ongoing violence.
