Tesla Snubbed Again by Biden Administration for EV Charging Corridor Funding

The Biden administration has denied funding to Tesla and its partner California’s South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) for the second time, this time in a round of funding requests for electric vehicle charging corridors. The $636 million awarded to 49 applicants leaves Tesla out of the funding pool.

Tesla had initially applied for funding in 2023 as part of the Charging and Fueling Infrastructure (CFI) program under the Biden administration’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal. The project aimed to build an EV charging corridor from Fremont, California, to Laredo, Texas, with nine planned stops across nine states. However, both requests were denied.

The CFI program set aside $2.5 billion for EV charging expansion, leaving room for future funding rounds. With President-elect Donald Trump’s upcoming inauguration, it is likely that some of this funding could go towards Tesla, given his relationship with CEO Elon Musk.
