Walmart is giving its logo a long-overdue facelift after nearly two decades, unveiling a refreshed brand identity that subtly nods to its past. The company’s new logo features a chunkier font inspired by the typeface used in the 1980s and early 2000s, while retaining the iconic yellow “spark.” A darker blue hue has been introduced to keep the brand fresh.
The new logo will debut on Walmart’s website and app this month, with plans to roll out to its 10,500 stores over time. The update is part of a broader effort to modernize the company’s image, which was previously criticized for not adapting quickly enough to changing market trends.
However, despite criticism in the past, Walmart has seen significant growth in recent years, driven by investments in grocery and online operations. Sales at US stores have grown 5% year-over-year, while profit has increased by 8%. The company’s efforts to bolster its assortment of clothing, electronics, home furnishings, and other goods have also paid off.
With this new logo, Walmart is signaling a renewed focus on modernizing its brand image, while still honoring its rich history.
