In 2018, Starbucks introduced a policy allowing customers to use restrooms and socialize without purchasing anything after two Black men were arrested at a Philadelphia branch. However, the company is now reversing this policy.
As part of its new code of conduct, Starbucks aims to create a better environment for everyone by setting clear expectations for behavior. The decision comes amid pressure from CEO Brian Niccol to turn around the company’s fortunes, which have been disappointing despite sales efforts.
Separately, Starbucks has delayed the opening of its first community store in North Philadelphia, which was initially set to debut this year.
