Three ships carrying over two million barrels of Russian oil have been left idling off China’s eastern coast after being denied docking permission by port authorities, according to Bloomberg. The move comes as new US sanctions targeting Gazprom Neft, Surgutneftegas, and Sovcomflot, among others, take effect.
The sanctions also affect vessels from Russia’s “shadow fleet,” which transport oil above the $60 per barrel G7 price cap. A similar situation is unfolding off Spain’s coast, where the gas carrier Cool Rover is anchored, unable to dock due to US sanctions on Gazprom.
These developments demonstrate the growing impact of US sanctions on Russian energy exports and the global shipping industry.
