Mai Joins Street Fighter 6 as Second Crossover Character

Capcom has revealed a new gameplay trailer for Street Fighter 6, showcasing Mai, the Fatal Fury series’ iconic protagonist. Mai will become the second crossover character in Street Fighter history, available from February 5th, 2025.

Mai brings her unique fighting style to Street Fighter 6, utilizing a mix of familiar and new moves to drain opponents’ health bars. Her outfit is set to feature two versions: one reminiscent of her classic look and another inspired by Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, scheduled for release in April 2025.

Players can acquire the second skin using Fighter Coins or by maxing out their bond with Mai in World Tour mode. Those who own the Year 2 Character Pass will also gain instant access to Mai, while she can be purchased as a standalone fighter with Fighter Coins.

Street Fighter fans are divided on Mai’s inclusion, with some expressing concerns about the game becoming too cluttered with guest characters. However, most agree that Capcom has done an excellent job in faithfully representing Mai’s appearance and gameplay.

Mai’s introduction highlights the potential for crossovers between Capcom franchises. Fans have proposed alternative solutions, such as crossover games like MvC or CvS, rather than incorporating guest characters into mainline titles. The debate continues, with opinions ranging from excitement about Mai’s inclusion to disappointment about the prevalence of guest characters in modern fighting games.

For now, fans can look forward to experiencing Mai’s unique playstyle and new outfit in Street Fighter 6, which promises to be an exciting addition to the series.
