Texans Waive Diontae Johnson Ahead of Playoff Game

The Houston Texans have waived wide receiver Diontae Johnson ahead of their divisional-round playoff game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday. Coach DeMeco Ryans stated that working with Johnson did not yield the desired results, and they are now focused on the Chiefs.

Johnson was visibly upset after the team’s wild-card playoff victory over the Los Angeles Chargers on Saturday, where he played only 15 of 70 offensive snaps and received one target. He finished the game with one catch for 12 yards.

The Texans claimed Johnson off waivers from the Baltimore Ravens on December 23, despite him refusing to enter a game against the Philadelphia Eagles on December 1. Prior to joining the Ravens, Johnson was traded by the Carolina Panthers on October 29 and played just 39 snaps, catching one pass for 6 yards.

Johnson’s career has seen significant success with the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he earned a Pro Bowl selection in 2021 after a standout season. However, his time with the Texans seems to have been cut short due to limited playing opportunities.
