Bills Coach Sean McDermott Discusses Ravens Game Prep

The Buffalo Bills’ coaching staff met with the media on Monday evening to discuss their initial thoughts about the upcoming Divisional Round game against the Baltimore Ravens. The team announced its schedule for the game, which is set to take place at 6:30 p.m. on January 19.

In terms of injury updates, head coach Sean McDermott reported that RB Ray Davis is in concussion protocol following a scary collision with a Broncos defender during the Wild Card game. OL Alec Anderson has a calf injury and will be listed as day-to-day, while returner Brandon Codrington has a hamstring injury but is improving.

McDermott expressed optimism about Davis’ condition, saying he seems to be in a “decent spot” from a human standpoint. He also acknowledged that the medical piece of his injury is still unknown at this point.

Anderson briefly left the Wild Card game with his calf injury but returned in the second half. Codrington missed Sunday’s game due to his hamstring injury but practiced on a limited basis late last week.

Bills coach Sean McDermott and his staff began preparations for the Ravens on Sunday night, despite not knowing their schedule until Monday morning. McDermott said that having CB Taron Johnson, LB Terrel Bernard, and LB Matt Milano active will be important but doesn’t take away from the need to prepare thoroughly throughout the week.

“This is a unique offense in terms of their production and how explosive they are,” McDermott said. “It’s a great combination, unlike any I’ve seen with Lamar and Derrick Henry.”

Defensive coordinator Bobby Babich noted that linebacker Matt Milano needs to knock off rust after playing so little football due to injury, but is starting to feel more comfortable.

On the other side of the ball, OC Joe Brady shared his philosophy during the postseason, which is to find ways to get better while honing in on the details that made the offense click during the season. He emphasized the importance of not overloading the playbook and letting players feel confident in their roles.

“It’s players, not plays,” Brady said. “Less is more in the playoffs. Let guys go out there and play fast and put the ball in their hands, and good things usually happen.”
