Tiger Woods made his debut in the Tri Golf League (TGL) on Tuesday night, joining Kevin Kisner and Max Homa for a team match against Justin Rose, Collin Morikawa, and Sahith Theegala at Los Angeles Golf Club. Woods took only 20 shots over two hours to play 15 holes of alternate shot triples followed by six holes of singles.
The format allowed Woods to participate in the event with minimal physical strain, as he had previously mentioned that walking was a concern for him due to an injury. Despite falling behind 5-0 early, Woods’ team made a comeback with a crucial par putt on the fifth hole. The match ended with Los Angeles scoring 12 and Jupiter Links scoring 1.
Woods praised the entertainment value of the event, saying it was “a boat race” but added they had a great time. Tennis legend Serena Williams, who is part of the ownership group at Los Angeles Golf Club, cheered for Woods despite being in an opposing team.
The TGL format has drawn attention from golf enthusiasts, with its unique blend of technology and entertainment. The event also highlighted Woods’ personality, as he enjoyed the light shows, smoke, and music during his walk-out introduction.
