Country music singer Carrie Underwood will perform “America the Beautiful” at President-elect Donald Trump’s second inauguration on January 20, alongside Village People who will perform multiple events leading up to the ceremony. The group behind Trump’s favorite hit “Y.M.C.A.” announced their performances in a statement stressing the need for unity.
Trump has used Village People’s “Y.M.C.A.” at rallies throughout his campaigns, prompting mixed responses from the group. In contrast to 2017’s inaugural events that struggled to attract high-profile performers, this year’s ceremony is shaping up to be more star-studded. Country singer Lee Greenwood will perform during the swearing-in ceremony, while Jason Aldean and Rascal Flatts are scheduled for Trump’s inaugural ball on Monday.
Opera singer Christopher Macchio will sing the National Anthem at the inauguration, and his management confirmed the performance. The artists’ performances come amid a call for unity from Underwood and Village People.
